At Wellness Pet, we believe in the transformational power of nutrition. The Director of Nutrition plays a critical leadership role in ensuring our brand remains at the forefront of pet nutrition science, innovation, and education.

This role is ideal for a board-certified veterinary nutritionist (DACVIM-Nutrition) or a PhD in Animal Nutrition who thrives at the intersection of science, communication, and brand strategy. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role responsible for ensuring that all our innovations, communications, and product strategies are grounded in sound science, leading-edge nutrition, and an unwavering commitment to pets’ health. The Director of Nutrition is both an internal strategic driver and a public-facing thought leader, elevating brand credibility, and building veterinary trust across markets.

What You’ll Accomplish

Nutrition Communication & Brand Representation

• Translate complex nutritional science into clear, compelling messaging for consumer and professional audiences
• Collaborate with marketing members to ensure product messaging is credible, differentiated, and aligned with nutritional science
• Lead internal education and training sessions for cross-functional teams

Nutritional Strategy & Leadership

• Serve as a core member of the Marketing Innovation team to shape pipeline strategy, identify whitespace, and develop science-backed, consumer-relevant products
• Provide nutritional leadership in product claims, ingredient vetting, and testing methodology
• Develop and support claims strategies, proof of delivery (POD), and reasons to believe (RTB) positioning for new and existing products

Veterinary Relations & Scientific Advocacy

• Lead and expand Wellness Pet’s veterinary outreach strategy to increase brand awareness and recommendation of Wellness Pet’s portfolio of products
• Represent the brand at veterinary conferences, customer training events, KOL roundtables, and professional forums
• Activate scientific awareness campaigns through content, media, and in-person engagement to drive professional influence and trial

Commercial & Customer Training Excellence

• Execute US and global customer education and training needs with excellence—focusing on commercial innovation, new product launches, and retailer-specific requirements
• Lead or contribute to annual customer conferences, leadership summits, and key retailer engagements, ensuring strong technical support and brand alignment
• Serve as a nutritional expert for sales teams, marketing, and trade partners across the globe

Technical Mastery & Cross-Functional Support

• Provide deep scientific support to US and global marketing and commercial teams, including competitive landscape insights and nutritional differentiation
• Serve as a go-to scientific spokesperson for PR efforts, brand partnerships, and initiatives such as Pet Dental Health Month
• Deliver internal training sessions to ensure all teams are fluent in key nutritional principles and brand benefits

In addition, for this specific role, we need someone who:

• Holds a DVM with Board Certification in Veterinary Nutrition (DACVIM-Nutrition) or PhD in Animal Nutrition
• 5-10+ years of experience in pet nutrition or veterinary industry; corporate experience preferred
• Proven experience translating science into strategy, claims, and marketing messaging
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; confident media spokesperson
• Ability to build credibility with both scientific and commercial stakeholders
• Comfortable in a public-facing role with regular travel (25–30%) including international travel
• Is willing and able to work out of our Burlington office location Monday through Thursday each work week
